However, considering the fact that there are practically as many different hardware and software system configurations as there are computer users, some of you may encounter problems while installing and running any of our games.

Will the game run on my computer?

First, the game runs on Windows platform only. But this answer also depends on a variety of other factors, including CPU speed, amount of memory, and most importantly the type of your 3D graphics accelerator. Having up to date video card drivers should never be underestimated. Your best bet is to give it a try - download our game and see for yourself. Our trial version is FREE!

I get an error “This application has failed to start because of a missing .dll“.

You probably don’t have the latest DirectX installed on your computer. Please visit Microsoft’s web site to download latest DirectX components.

What is DirectX?

Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX version 9.0c includes security and performance updates.

How do I purchase Days of Sail: Wind over Waters?

Simply start or exit the game and the Buy screen will appear. The game will connect to the Internet to reach the transaction server. Activation is transacted on the secure Plimus site. Note that you need to be connected to the Internet during the purchase procedure, but Days of Sail: Wind over Waters requires no Internet connection at other times.

IMPORTANT: Personal firewall software may block the access to the Internet. Please ensure that Internet access is allowed through the firewall.

After purchasing our game, the application will immediately be automatically converted from trial mode into full version (activated). You should also receive a confirmation e-mail after a few minutes, with the details of the transaction, and a special activation code.

Is the credit card purchase safe?

The credit card transaction is absolutely safe.

The credit card transaction is executed on a strongly encrypted connection. The technologies we have chosen for credit card processing and digital rights management are pioneers of digital distribution of games and software, and many big publishers of PC games trust these technologies without fear that their customers might get hurt.

Will I lose my game when I re-install Windows or buy an all new computer?

There is no danger that you would lose your game, whether you had to re-install your computer, or buy a brand new one. You can always back-up (or re-download) the game’s installer, install the game again, and enter the activation code again to unlock the full version of it for free.

Days of Sail: Wind over Waters won’t start.

Go to <game folder>\savegames, delete file options_settings0.SAV and try again.

CrimeCity won’t start.

Go to <game folder>\gamesave, delete file player0.SAV and try again. If all else fails, reinstall the game.

After running the game, I get a black screen.

We strongly recommend you install the latest drivers of your video card. Contact your card manufacturer for the latest documentation and drivers. Many early 32MB video cards are too old to use some of the advanced graphical features of DirectX 9 and newer, features that are required for the 3D technology used by our games such as hardware accelerated transforms and lighting (or Hardware T&L) as well as pixel shaders. If you are unsure if your video card is equipped with Hardware T&L, consult the documentation (if hardware T&L is included, it will be listed as one of the technical features included in the card) or contact the manufacturer.We strongly recommend you play this game on a computer equipped with a video card that has hardware T & L acceleration. Below is a list of common graphics card manufacturers. Choose the one that matches your hardware:

• nVidia (TNT2, GeForce family, Quadro, etc.)
• ATI (Radeon series, x800…)
• SiS 645, 745
• Matrox (G400, Parhelia)
• Intel

Water reflection in Days of Sail: Wind over Waters does not display properly.

Some video cards (especially GeForce cards) can’t display the water reflection properly.

• Disable water reflection. Go to the “Options” menu screen and set “Water reflection” to Off.

HDR Emulation in Days of Sail: Wind over Waters does not display properly.

Some video cards can’t display the HDR Emulation properly.

• Disable HDR Emulation. Go to the “Options” menu screen and set “HDR Emulation” to Off.

Game sound is too high/low.

Volume levels have been optimally adjusted for game play. Note however, that if you experience undesirable audio levels, you may make adjustments to them by using the windows sound system. From the desktop, select START/ Programs / Accessories / Multimedia / Volume Control.

I can’t listen to any music in Days of Sail: Wind over Waters.

Music is in .ogg format. If your PC does not have an ogg player, you can install one by executing the file “OggCodec.exe“, found in the main folder of the game.

I can’t listen to any music in CrimeCity.

First, make sure that you haven’t accidentaly disabled music, under Menu / Options.

Music is in .ogg format. The OGG player is automatically installed in each new installation. If however you still don’t listen to any sound, find a free OGG installer from the internet and install it at your system.

Game runs slowly or animation is “jumpy” in Days of Sail: Wind over Waters?

The game has been tuned to suit most graphics adapters on market. However, if the framerate is low:

• Disable water reflection which practically renders everything twice. Go to the “Options” menu screen and set “Water reflection” to Off.
• Go to the “Options” menu screen and set “HDR Emulation” to Off.
• Go to the “Options” menu screen and set “View Distance” to Min.
• See that no other CPU hungry processes run on the background.
• If the hard drive used by the Windows swapfile is low on space, you may exprerience a degradation in performance or random crashes; please make sure your hard drives have plenty of space for the swap file
• Make sure your hard drives are free of fragmentation.

How can I tell if my graphics accelerator drivers are up to date?

There is a utility on all Windows machines that is called DXDiag (for DirectX Diagnostics) which reports all kinds of technical details about the computer. It can be launched simply by clicking on the Start button in Windows, selecting the Run option, and typing dxdiag (without apostrophes) into the window that will appear. The DirectX Diagnostics utility will show up, scan your computer in a few seconds, and you will be able to see all kinds of information organized on several tabs. You will find the information about your 3D card summarized on the Display tab.

Note: When you want to get in touch with our technical support, it may be desirable to send a copy of the dxdiag output along with your tech request. Just click the Save All Information button, and store the output in a text file which may be attached to an e-mail. There is no need to fear that you would be sending any private information with this report, it’s only technical data about your computer. You can verify this easily - just open the file in any plain text editor like Windows Notepad.
