CrimeCity is out there for two weeks, and we are impressed from the feedback we got so far. Even though it’s still too early to tell, in the casual games’ arena, the game seems to behave very well and this could be an indication that the casual audience is now looking for gameplay originality, 3D looks and a more hard-core flavour - these are, we believe, CrimeCity’s stronger assets.
We don’t claim to be cutting edge gameplay innovators trying to do something that’s never been done before. What we do is more subtle - borrowing elements from genres we love and blending them together into something that’s fresh, yet also familiar. CrimeCity’s unique blend of casual action with strategy elements seem to have found an audience with casual gamers who appreciate a diversion from the norm.
The guys at EGCGAMES were kind enough to share their opinion on the game. Overall impression was positive:
“I found the game to be very interesting and amusing. Literally, you will try to stop playing, but you won’t want to. The 45 minutes demo will just pass so quickly, that you will want to buy it at once… On the other hand if you really want to buy the game, it’s available through the official website (a very nicely designed one) http://games.tetrahedron.gr/crimecity/home.html at the very nice price of ?13,5 or $19,99″
Here’s what they said about the game’s perspective: “Levels are designed in a clever and very convenient way. You see everything from the top, as if you play Monopoly. It really reminded me of Monopoly Tycoon or even PacMan, but I’m sure that hundreds of games are developed in such way. Anyway, the perspective is ideal for this kind of game and it helps the player to easily control his/her police cars and to manage to trap the criminal.”
About the graphics: “Visuals are not something important here and you can tell by the models that are used for the buildings and the cars. Without being ugly or poor, they definitely don’t match with today’s standards. This of course is the purpose of a casual game. To be light enough so that it can be used on any PC or laptop or MAC, even if it’s some years old. Nevertheless, graphics seem to be good enough for this game.”
About music/sound: “Sound seems interesting. The music score in the main menu is very nice, with some police sirens mixed with chill out music or strong beats. But sound remains interesting during gameplay time, where you can hear policemen contact each other like in real pursues.”
About the game’s difficulty: “For a casual game, I wouldn’t say that it is easy. I found myself losing many times (especially against that pyromaniac: he just runs fast!). This of course adds to the game, as you will probably play again and again until you bust that bad bad criminal… :)”
